Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Cybersecurity

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): On the CMS Development Environment Consolidation Contract (DECC) program Knowledge Analytics provided enterprise security architecture, engineering and development services for the new Health Care Quality Information System (HCQIS) which consolidates the CMS Center for Clinical Quality and Standards (CCSQ) mission critical systems (HR/PQRS/ESRD/QIO) into one enterprise, SOA-driven, operating environment. Knowledge Analytics created an enterprise security gateway that serves as the external system interface to the HCQIS environment and performs several vital processing functions such as Message Freshness Checking, Schema Validation, a custom Anti-Virus Scanning feature, System Authentication/Authorization and Denial of Service prevention. Eventually, KAI Engineers used this enterprise security gateway to replace the CMS Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN) that was previously in place running off of the Office of National Coordinator’s (ONC) CONNECT specification for the exchange of health information. KAI engineers also implemented a Security Audit Log Analytics Reporting Service that allows for the aggregation, analysis and presentation of log activities in a categorized fashion.
